Frequently Asked Questions

Why Stained Glass?

Stained glass adds beauty and warmth to a room, while it enhances a property's value. It can let light flow in, along with a beautiful view, or it can insure privacy and obscure a view. A stained glass window sets a mood by catching and changing the light. It can enliven an entry, highlight architectural features, or add a special designer touch. A stained glass panel also can be suspended in a room or used as an interior divider.

What does it cost?

The average price can range between $110 and $200 per square foot, plus installation. However, cost does not dictate artistic quality. Simple windows can be beautiful. The actual price of each unique stained glass window depends on a number of variables. Julee's Stained Glass works with clients to provide the best designs for their budgets.

Creating in stained glass is labor intensive -- the more intricate the design, the higher the price. Imported or handmade glass is more expensive than machine-worked glass, and custom bevels cost more than precut, stock bevels. Hand painting and firing details onto glass also can affect the price.

What about payments?

One third of the project fee is due upon design acceptance. The remainder is due upon installation. An independent contractor handles most window installations; the fee does not include this cost.

Are the windows moveable?

A stained glass panel can be inserted into any window space and is removable,  so it could be changed into a hanging piece if the client moves.

What is the design process?

The design process begins with a conversation with Julee. You'll answer questions about what sort of design you want, for what sort of environment, and what mood you want the piece to create. Julee also will want to see the project site, if possible, to get a feel for the natural light in the space, so that it's possible to select the right kind of glass for the window.

The next step is a preliminary pastel sketch. Julee will talk with you about it and, with your input about the design and possible glass selection, be equipped to make necessary changes. She'll  then produce a final, full-scale drawing for your approval. (Changes after this point may entail additional fees.)

After reaching agreement about the project's design and cost, you will receive a firm project bid. With your approval, construction will begin, and the dry pastel drawing will come to life in the light.
